8/2/2012 - LAJES FIELD, Azores -- The Military and Overseas Voter Empowerment Act (MOVE) requires casted absentee ballots be collected and "postmarked" no later than noon on the seventh day preceding the date of the regularly scheduled general election for federal office.
The general election this year occurs on Nov. 6 resulting in noon on Oct. 30 as the no later than date. This date provides the last possible time casted ballots have a "reasonable" expectation of reaching the appropriate voting office before the election.
Due to our location and flight schedules the Lajes Post Office recommends dropping off your casted ballot no later than 5 p.m. Oct. 22.
Remember, the Oct. 22 date does not mean a casted ballot will not be considered if mailed at a later date. However, there is a higher probability for ballots that are mailed no later than Oct. 22 will arrive in time stateside before or on Nov. 6.
