65th Air Base Wing commander

8/1/2012 - LAJES FIELD, Azores -- As we approach Open House 2012 on Sunday, August 5th, I feel honored to be part of such an exciting event. In partnership with our Portuguese counterparts, we've put together an unmatched open house for all Airmen and local citizens to enjoy. On the 65th Air Base Wing side of the house, I thank our dedicated planning committee led by Maj. Bill Hesketh and Master Sgt. Travis Chaney. Keep these thoughts in mind as we make final preparations for Open House.

Open House 2012 is all about displaying American and Portuguese solidarity, cooperation and teamwork. In squadrons, flights and work centers throughout the base, we're completing the mission side-by-side.

American and Portuguese Airmen tackle challenges, enjoy success and serve our nations so well because of that fundamental element that makes Lajes Field special: teamwork. So, let's show the world how powerful that partnership is!

The United States Air Force participates in open houses and community relations events to show the world the meaningful work that we do each day. Lajes Field Airmen are tied to operations around the globe and we'll demonstrate that through a representative sample of the aircraft that come through here every week. The ramp will include a C-5 Galaxy, KC-135 Stratotanker and F-15E Strike Eagles - aircraft that you help get to the fight each day!

Finally, as you enjoy Open House 2012 and also, venture down to Praia Fest, please keep safety in mind. It's a great time of year to get out and enjoy the island and all of the local festivities. Be mindful of your surroundings and look out for your fellow Airmen. I want you to enjoy Open House 2012 and Praia Fest to the fullest extent, but I need you to have fun in a responsible manner.

To all American and Portuguese "A"irmen at Lajes Field, I'm proud to serve with you!
