7/27/2012 - LAJES FIELD, Azores -- This year's Praia Fest will take place Aug. 3 to 11 in the city of Praia da Vitória. Unlike Sanjoaninas festival in Angra, Praia Fest does not have a long tradition. It began in 1978 and with the exception of a few years, the town of Praia has held its fest since then. Here are some highlighted events for Aug. 3 to 6. The rest will be published in next week's issue of the Crossroads Xtra.
Aug. 3 6 p.m. - Opening of the 13th Food Fair (next to the marina) / 7 p.m. - Opening of Arts & Crafts Fair (waterfront) / 9 p.m. - Parade of marching bands (main street) / 10:30 p.m. - Concert by three concert bands (main square) / Midnight - Concert by Portuguese rock band Maze Lab (waterfront) / 1 a.m. - DJ music in the Music Resort
Aug. 4 9 a.m. - 5K run (waterfront) / 11 a.m. - Spinning class with Portuguese Air Force (waterfront) / 5 p.m. - Aerobics class with the Portuguese Air force (waterfront) / 6 p.m. - Street bullfight at Quatro Ribeiras / 9:45 p.m. - Parade of Praia's marching band (main street) / 10 p.m. - Parade of Praia Fest's marching group followed by the Opening Parade of Floats (main street) / Midnight - Concert by local rock band "October Flight" (music resort) / 12:30 a.m. - Concert by rock band "Brens Band" (waterfront)
Aug. 5 10 a.m. - Open House at Air Base 4 / 4 p.m. - Body Combat class (waterfront) / 6 p.m. - Parade of motorcycle riders (main street/waterfront) / 8 p.m. - Ethnographic parade "Costumes and Traditions of Terceira Island" (main street) / 9:30 p.m. - Krav Maga demonstration (waterfront) / 11 p.m. - Concert by Portuguese pop rock band "Hands on Approach" (music resort) / Midnight - Concert by Portuguese singer "Delfim Miranda" (waterfront)
