7/27/2012 - LAJES FIELD, Azores -- Lt. Col. David Scharf relinquished command of the 65th Civil Engineer Squadron to Lt. Col. Teri French during a change of command ceremony July 19.
French arrives to Lajes Field from Maxwell AFB, Ala., as the Director of Staff in the Department of International Security and Military Studies at Air Command and Staff College.
The 65th CES is responsible for enabling expeditionary forces by planning, providing and protecting $1.7 billion of facilities and $287 million of infrastructure and maintaining an environment needed to sustain air and space power in support of the U.S. and its allies at this strategically located, remote air base.
French will now oversee execution of a $23 million annual budget to meet facility, housing and readiness requirements supporting more than 2,000 personnel.
The 65th Civil Engineer Squadron also deploys mission-ready civil engineers to meet worldwide contingency requirements.
French received her commission and a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from the United States Air Force Academy and a Master of Engineering degree in Engineering Management from the University of Colorado, Boulder, Colo. She served in a wide range of civil engineer positions at various levels and deployed in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom in Iraq, Qatar and Afghanistan.
Scharf moved on to the Air Mobility Command Inspector General team at Scott AFB, Ill.
