7/29/2010 - LAJES FIELD, Azores -- This year's Praia Fest will take place today (July 30) through Aug. 8 in the City of Praia da Vitória. Unlike the Sanjoaninas Festival in Angra, Praia Fest does not have a long tradition. The festival first began in 1978 and, with the exception of some intervals, the festival has been celebrated every year since.
This year, Praia Fest will sponsor the 11th consecutive food fair, featuring restaurants from Terceira, São Miguel and mainland Portugal which will highlight the traditional cuisine of those regions.
There will be music every night with concerts in the music resort area. All parades will take place on the main street, square and waterfront. The main concerts will take place in the area behind the Yacht Club, while the other concerts will take place in the stage located on the waterfront next to the marina.

Friday, 30 July
6:30 p.m. - Opening of the Regional Arts & Crafts Fair (waterfront)
11 p.m. - Concert by local Latin Beat band "Contratempo" (waterfront)
11 p.m. - Opening of Dream Zone music resort featuring several DJs (next to Yacht Club)
Saturday, 31 July
10 a.m. - Soap box derby race - (military road)
8 p.m. - Karate demonstration - (waterfront)
10 p.m. - Opening parade of floats (main street-waterfront)
Midnight - Concert by local rock band "Goma" (waterfront)
Sunday, 1 August
5 p.m. - Paintball Challenge Cup (Paúl- area behind the main stage)
8 p.m. - Arena bullfight (Angra bullring)
8 p.m. - Kickboxing demonstration (waterfront)
11 p.m. - Concert by Portuguese rock bands Stream and Klepht (music resort)
Midnight - Concert by Portuguese traditional music band "Comcordas" (waterfront)
Monday, 2 August
10 a.m. - Demonstration by hunting dogs (next to park across from military port)
6 p.m. - Street bullfight at Juncal
8 p.m. - Judo demonstration (waterfront)
10 p.m. - Parade of folklore dancers followed by performances (main street-waterfront)
11 p.m. - Concert by Portuguese pop singer Lucia Moniz (music resort)
Tuesday, 3 August
6 p.m. - Street bullfight at Juncal
10 p.m. - Concert by two concert bands (main square)
11 p.m. - Concert by American pop & country singer Colbie Cailat (music resort)
Midnight - Concert by Bossa Nova Quartet (waterfront)
Wednesday, 4 August
6 p.m. - Street bullfight at Juncal
10 p.m. - Parade of marching groups (main street-waterfront)
11 p.m. - Concert by Portuguese rock band "Blasted Mechanism" (music resort)
